NICOLAI BERGMANN PROFILE

Nicolai Bergmann
Flower Artist

Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Nicolai Bergmann is known for his distinctive floral works that combine the essence of Scandinavian design with the refined sensibilities and attention to detail characteristic of Japan. Beyond the world of floral design, he has collaborated with some of the world’s leading brands across fashion and design, establishing himself as one of Japan’s most recognized flower artists.

After moving to Japan in 1998, Bergmann founded his own brand, Nicolai Bergmann Flowers & Design, in 2001 and opened his first store. In 2010, he launched the brand’s flagship location in Omotesando Tokyo, featuring a flower shop, café, and studio. Today, the brand operates nine flower boutiques in total — seven across Japan, as well as in Copenhagen and Seoul — in addition to the original flower café Nicolai Bergmann NOMU and Nicolai Bergmann Hakone Gardens in Gora, Hakone.

Nicolai Bergmann’s signature flower box design — a stylish black box filled with meticulously arranged blooms — has become an icon of the brand and a beloved staple in floral gifting. Alongside his commercial work, he continues to present solo exhibitions both in Japan and internationally, including in Denmark and various locations across Asia, often exploring collaborations that merge floral art with fashion, music, and contemporary art.

In April 2022, he opened Nicolai Bergmann Hakone Gardens, where people and nature are brought together through art and design, marking a new chapter in his creative journey. That same year, his exhibition at Dazaifu Tenmangu in Fukuoka attracted nearly 20,000 visitors in four days, receiving widespread acclaim.

In 2025, Nicolai Bergmann continues to broaden his creative horizons, celebrating the 25th anniversary of his iconic Flower Box with a special exhibition at Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, and sharing his insights as a speaker at the World Department Store Summit (WDSS) in Seoul.

He continues to pioneer new perspectives in floral design, extending his artistry and influence across the world.
